DR. EMILY BARLOW-KRELINA
Clinical Psychologist
Pronouns: she | her | hers
I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) to work with children and adolescents. At Prime Connections, I provide comprehensive psychoeducational and psychodiagnostic assessments for youth with mental health, behavioural and/or learning needs.
My practice is rooted in a belief that every person deserves to be seen for who they are, and with an appreciation for their strengths. I understand that families often seek an assessment when they are feeling stuck and wanting to help their child reach their fullest potential. With this in mind, I strive to create a safe space for you to feel heard in your concerns, and your child to feel valued as a unique person. I offer a warm, transparent and flexible environment so that the testing process can feel as comfortable as possible.
My goal is to help young people understand themselves better, build confidence through this self-understanding, and learn strategies to navigate what is challenging. I aim to provide support that feels practical, clear and meaningful in the context of your family’s goals, and to help you/your child build the language and tools to communicate their needs with others. I understand that young people are situated in complex worlds – including their family, school and healthcare teams. As such, I work to learn about your child from these contexts and help bridge supports forward.
I completed my doctoral degree in Clinical Developmental Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology at York University, and bring assessment and therapy experience from private and public settings, including the Hospital for Sick Children, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. While my current focus is not in neuropsychology, my training in this area has provided me with foundational knowledge of brain-behaviour relationships that informs my understanding of learning disabilities, ADHD, and difficulties with emotion regulation. I also pull from my therapy experience when building an approach to assessment that feels comprehensive and sensitive to clients’ unique needs.
